Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, personal history, and goals for counseling. Together, we will explore your needs and develop a plan to support your healing, growth, and overall well-being.

How long are counseling sessions?

Individual counseling sessions are typically 53–60 minutes. Couples and family sessions generally range from 60–75 minutes.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the counseling relationship. Information shared during sessions is protected by law and professional ethics, with limited exceptions related to safety concerns, abuse reporting requirements, or court orders.

How often will I need counseling sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs, goals, and circumstances. Many clients begin with weekly sessions and adjust the frequency as progress is made.

How do I know if counseling is right for me?

Counseling can be beneficial for anyone seeking support, personal growth, improved coping skills, healthier relationships, or assistance in navigating life's challenges. If you are unsure, we encourage you to schedule a consultation to discuss your needs.

What if I am experiencing a mental health emergency?

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or require immediate assistance, call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988.
